Friday, Sept. 18th @ 6:30pm
Platts-Bradstreet House and Barn , 233 Main St., Rowley
The Officers and Board of Directors of the Rowley Historical Society invite you to join them for an evening of fine food and entertainment at our Pot Luck Supper/Annual Meeting on Friday, Sept. 18th @ 6:30pm.
As has been our tradition, we encourage everyone to bring an entrée, casserole or salad to share. We will supply beverages and dessert – homemade pies. As usual, in deference to our fragile septic system, we ask that each diner bring his/her own plate and utensils – actually checking out the eclectic mix of table settings has become part of the charm of the evening. An admission charge of $5.00 per head will be charged in lieu of bringing a contribution to the “Pot-Luck” portion of the evening.
The Nominating Committee will present its slate of 2009-10 Officers and Directors for the approval of the membership during the short – very short – business portion of the evening, the
entertainment will follow.
We are very pleased to be able to announce that our own Bob Merry will present another one of his always informative and entertaining presentations - “Bygone Rowley”
As many of you are aware, Bob is currently a member of the RHS Board of Directors, the retired Manager of the Rowley Light Dept., one of the authors of the Images of America/Rowley book, and a former Rowley Selectmen, member of Rowley Historic District Commission and Community Preservation Committee and a well known collector of all things Rowley. As Bob would be quick to point out, he’s not a native but a transplant but in reality he and his family have lived in town for many, many years and there are few who are more knowledgeable about Rowley history. In his ‘spare time’, he searches flea markets, antiques shops and ephemera internet sites and finds all manner of photos, documents and other Rowley related ‘stuff’. Even more impressive, to me at least, is that apparently Bob has organized his unique collection in such a way that he can retrieve specific items or information on demand in preparation for these wonderful and often amusing programs - as opposed to the occasional Rowley postcard that I find, purchase, admire and then file away – never to be found again! But I digress –
Although, at this point, Bob is still working on his program draft but we are confident that it will be interesting, entertaining and perhaps even educational and urge you attend. The Pot Luck Supper will kick the evening off at 6:30 pm. Dinner, meeting and entertainment and we’re usually out by 9 – so if you haven’t had a chance to attend one of our events before – mark your calendar and save the date – Friday, Sept. 18th
See you there! |
